Pareto 26.10

TLDR: Yes, you need to act if you want to avoid a price increase.

• Your current plan (Fixed Saver 24) ends on Dec 31, 2026.
• If you do nothing by Nov 28, 2026, you'll be auto-switched to their Standard Variable tariff, which is much more expensive (34.1p/kWh vs your current 24.6p/kWh).
• Action required: Log into your account before Nov 28, 2026 and select Fixed Saver 27 to keep a fixed rate.
• The Terms & Conditions changes (meter readings, complaints, emails) are just informational – no action needed.

Bottom line: Log in and pick Fixed Saver 27 before the end of November, or your bill will jump significantly in January.

Subject: Security Deposit Return – [Address of the Rental Property]

Dear [Landlord's Name],

I hope you're doing well. I'm writing to follow up on the return of my security deposit of $1,400 for the property at [address]. I moved out seven weeks ago, and as of today, I have not received the deposit or an itemized statement of deductions.

I have sent you a couple of text messages over the past few weeks but haven't heard back, so I wanted to reach out in writing to make sure this gets your attention.

As you may know, under [state/province] law, the security deposit must be returned within [X days/weeks, e.g., 21 days] of move-out unless there are documented deductions. Given that this timeline has passed, I ask that you please return the full deposit to my address on file, or provide an itemized list of any deductions, by [date – e.g., 10 days from now].

If there are any issues or paperwork you need from me on my end, let me know and I'll get it to you right away. Otherwise, I'd appreciate confirmation of when I can expect the funds.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I'd prefer to resolve this directly, but if I don't hear back, I will need to consider other options to recover the deposit.

Best regards, Sam [Phone number] [Email]

No, this is definitely a scam (phishing). Do not click the link and do not enter any personal or payment information.

Here’s why it’s fake:

1. The URL is a dead giveaway: The link is https://dhl.com-redelivery.eu/.... Genuine DHL websites end in dhl.com, dhl.de, etc. This link tries to trick you by putting "dhl.com" before a hyphen, but the actual domain is redelivery.eu. Legitimate companies never use hyphens in this way to try to mimic their domain.
2. The timing and amount: Scammers use small, urgent amounts (like €1.99) to make you act quickly without thinking. Real customs fees are calculated based on the item's value, VAT, and handling charges, and they are rarely exactly €1.99.
3. The threat: “Returned to the sender within 24 hours” is a common social engineering tactic to rush you into acting before you can verify.
4. Lack of specifics: The text doesn't include a tracking number or your name, which a genuine notification would have.

What you should do:

• Do not click the link, do not reply, and do not provide any card or personal details.
• Delete the text message.
• If you are expecting a package, check the status directly by going to the official DHL website (type dhl.com into your browser manually) or using the official DHL app, and look up your tracking number.
• You can also report the SMS to DHL's official phishing report email (e.g., phishing@dhl.com) or forward it to your phone carrier's spam reporting number (e.g., 7726 in the US/UK), though deleting it is enough.

Legitimate customs fees for international shipments usually require you to log into your account or pay through the official carrier's website using a tracking number, never through a link in an SMS like this.

I have to be honest with you: I don't have specific knowledge of a novel titled Nineteen Quiet Rooms by Ottilie Marsh.

Since book club is tomorrow, I don't want to make up a twist or risk giving you totally incorrect information that would ruin your discussion or confuse you. I cannot find this title or author in my training data, so it's likely a very recent release, an indie/self-published title, or a book with a title that's slightly different from the one I have access to.

However, I can still help you save your book club tomorrow! Here are a few options:

1. Tell me what you've read so far. If you give me a summary of the plot, the characters, and the last chapters you finished (the setting, any weird clues, the protagors), I can help you brainstorm likely twists based on classic thriller/horror tropes (like a house that isn't what it seems, a character who isn't real, or a time loop).
2. Quick spoiler search: Since the book is likely very new, try searching the title + "ending explained" or "spoiler" on Reddit (r/books or r/horrorlit) or Goodreads. Readers usually post detailed summaries of endings there within days of release.
3. Ask a friend in the club: If you have a friend who finished it, ask them privately to just tell you the twist before tomorrow.

If you want to give me a rundown of the plot you've read so far, I’d be happy to help you analyze it and predict a plausible ending so you don't go in completely empty-handed!

Absolutely! You can make a Skillet Leek & Parmesan Frittata with Butter-Toasted Bread in about 17 minutes. It's the vegetarian, rustic Italian version of a golden, cheesy omelette—cooked entirely on the stovetop, no oven needed.

Here's the plan:

Ingredients:

• 4 eggs
• 1/2 leek (white and light green parts only)
• Stale bread (cut into 4 thick slices, or however much you want)
• 1/2 cup grated parmesan (plus a bit extra for topping)
• 3 tbsp butter (divided)
• Salt & black pepper
• Optional: a squeeze of lemon or a pinch of chili flakes

---

Step 1: Prep (2 minutes)

1. Leek: Cut the leek in half lengthwise, then slice thinly crosswise. Crucial: Place the slices in a bowl of cold water and swish them around—leeks trap a lot of sand and dirt. Drain and pat dry.
2. Bread: Slice the bread into 1/2-inch thick pieces.

---

Step 2: Toast the Bread (4 minutes)

Heat a large non-stick skillet (or cast iron) over medium heat. Add 1 tbsp butter and let it melt. Add the bread slices in a single layer. Toast for 2 minutes per side until golden and crispy (this revives stale bread beautifully). Transfer to a plate and set aside. Pro tip: wipe out the pan afterwards if there are burnt bits.

---

Step 3: Cook the Leeks (5 minutes)

In the same pan, add 1 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add the sliced leeks and a pinch of salt. Sauté for 4–5 minutes, stirring, until soft and just starting to caramelize at the edges.

---

Step 4: Make the Frittata (7 minutes)

1. While leeks cook, crack the eggs into a bowl. Whisk with a fork, then stir in half the parmesan, a pinch of salt, and a few cracks of black pepper.
2. When the leeks are soft, pour the egg mixture right over them in the pan. Turn the heat down to medium-low.
3. Let it cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes. As the edges set, use a spatula to gently pull the cooked edges toward the center, letting the raw egg run underneath.
4. When the top is just slightly wet but mostly set (about 5-6 minutes total), sprinkle the remaining parmesan over the top.
5. Top trick: Cover the pan with a lid (or a large flat plate) for the final 1–2 minutes. The trapped steam will set the top without flipping or burning it.

---

Step 5: Serve (1 minute)

Slide the frittata onto a cutting board. Cut it in half like a pizza slice (or fold it like an omelette). Serve immediately with the crispy butter toast on the side.

Quick finishing touches: A squeeze of lemon over the frittata brightens it up beautifully, and a pinch of chili flakes adds a nice kick if you have them.

---

Time breakdown: 2 (prep) + 4 (toast) + 5 (leeks) + 7 (eggs) = 18 minutes. Done before the 20-minute mark!

The butter-toasted stale bread is the perfect vessel to soak up the runny-ish, cheesy egg. Buon appetito!

For anyone I haven’t met, I’m the bride’s sibling.

My sister and Elliot met at the climbing gym, which is a better result than most people get from a gym membership.

Elliot, I’m really glad she met you. It’s lovely to see my sister with someone she can be completely herself around—and to welcome you into the family.

I love you both, and I’m looking forward to all the ordinary dinners and big occasions we’ll get to share.

So, glasses up—to my sister and Elliot. Here’s to a very happy life together.

The cost of sharing the steak

The bistecca is priced by weight: €5.50 per 100g, with a minimum of 1.2 kg.

• Minimum (1.2 kg): €66.00 — that's the floor, even for two people
• A typical steak for two might come in at 1.2–1.5 kg, so realistically €66–€82.50

Then add:

• Coperto: €3.00 × 2 = €6.00
• 12% service on the total

Rough estimate for just the steak + cover: ~€80. If you add a side or two (which you'll likely want — the fagioli all'uccelletto is classic with it), expect around €90–€100 total.

One tip: at Florentine trattorias the waiter usually brings the steak out to show you the weight before cooking, so you'll know the exact price before committing.

This is such a fun question! I can't literally draw a picture for you, but I can give you a super simple way to draw it together on paper (with the explanation built in), plus a text-picture you can look at right now.

Here is the secret: It’s not about how far Earth is from the Sun. It’s about how Earth is leaning.

---

🖍️ How to Draw It (Do this with her!)

Get a piece of paper, a pencil, and two colors (orange and blue).

1. Draw the Sun in the middle of the paper. (Make it a big orange circle and draw little light rays shooting out.)
2. Draw Earth on the LEFT side of the paper. (A small blue circle.)
3. Draw a stick through Earth, top to bottom, but lean the top of the stick toward the Sun. (Like Earth is bowing to the Sun.)
4. Write: "SUMMER here!" above the left Earth.
5. Draw another Earth on the RIGHT side of the paper.
6. Draw a stick through THIS Earth, but this time, lean the top of the stick AWAY from the Sun. (Like Earth is leaning back.)
7. Write: "WINTER here!" above the right Earth.

Here’s what your paper should look like:

              SUMMER!
                /
               / <-- Earth is leaning toward the sun
              /
    ~~~~~ SUN ~~~~~
              \
               \  <-- Earth is leaning away from the sun
                \
              WINTER!
---
🧠 The "Flashlight" Explanation (To tell her while you draw)
Ask her if she has ever shined a flashlight straight down on the floor versus holding it at a slanted angle.
• Straight down = Super bright, hot, and focused. ➡️ That's Summer! The sun's rays hit Earth straight on.
• Slanted = The light spreads out, gets weaker, and is dimmer. ➡️ That's Winter! The sun's rays hit Earth at a slanted angle, so they don't warm it up as much.
The Earth spins like a spinning top, but it always leans the same way as it goes around the Sun. So for half the year (Summer), our top of the world (the North Pole) leans toward the Sun. The other half (Winter), it leans away.
---
🚀 Bonus Fun Fact to Blow Her Mind
A lot of people think we have winter because the Earth is farther away from the Sun. That’s wrong! In January, Earth is actually closest to the Sun, but it's Winter for us in the north because we are leaning away. If you live in Australia, it's Summer right now because their South Pole is leaning toward the Sun!
The drawing you made together is the perfect cheat-sheet. Hang it on the fridge! If she asks again next year, you can just point to the stick leaning toward the sun. 😊
